56 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if she will clarify whether it is her intention to proceed with the Bus Competition Bill; whether it has been approved by Government; and if so, when it is intended to be published.
I will be reviewing in the near future the legislative proposals for the liberalisation of the bus industry which have been prepared by my predecessor. Those proposals, in the form of draft heads of a Bill, were submitted by the previous Minister to the Government, for approval to draft a Bill. Those proposals have now lapsed from the Government's agenda consequent on the appointment of a new Government.
Arising from my review, I will be bringing forward legislative proposals to the Government for the bus industry as soon as possible.
