Vol. 416 No. 2

Written Answers. - Urban Renewal Scheme.

Phil Hogan

Question:

79 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Finance if he will be reviewing the urban renewal scheme in the near future; if he is proposing to extend the financial incentives under this scheme in various centres where work has not taken place to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As with taxation reliefs and incentives generally, the package of incentives available within areas designated under the urban renewal scheme is kept under ongoing review. However, I have no proposals at this point to extend the availability of these incentives beyond the expiry dates already set down in legislation.

As regards the designation of further areas, this is a matter in the first instance, under the Urban Renewal Act, 1986, for the Minister for the Environment. As set out in that Minister's reply to Question No. 342 of 29 January 1992, he has no immediate proposals to extend the scheme to new areas.
