Vol. 416 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Bus Passenger Numbers.

Paul Bradford

Question:

107 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the number of pupils which school buses are insured to carry; and his views on whether the numbers in question are excessive from a safety point of view.

It is the responsibility of Bus Éireann, the Department's agent in the administration of the school transport scheme, to ensure that vehicles are loaded and insured in accordance with the legal requirements.

The loading on school buses is determined by the relevant sections of the Road Traffic Regulations (Construction, Equipment and Use of Vehicles). Loading varies according to size of bus.
