114 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education if he will make a statement regarding the steps taken to ensure that there will not be a shortage of second-level places in schools in Tallaght, Dublin 24 for September 1992 in the light of the difficulties experienced in 1991.

There are seven post-primary schools in Tallaght:

These figures indicate that, taken as a whole, there is no shortage of pupil places in Tallaght.
In 1991, a number of pupils had initial difficulties in finding a place in the school, or schools, nearest their homes. Officials of my Department had discussions on the matter with school principals in the Tallaght area and with representatives of the Tallaght Education Council. As a result, those pupils, of whose difficulties my Department were made aware, were placed in post primary schools within the Tallaght area.
My Department continue to monitor the enrolment and accommodation situation at post-primary level in Tallaght and my officials will, as necessary, discuss the situation with the school principals in Tallaght and with the Tallaght Education Council.
