121 Tomás Mac Giolla asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the present position concerning negotiations towards a merger or other new relationship between Dublin City University and St. Patrick's College, Drumcondra, Dublin 9.

Following a Government decision to review the future of the teacher training colleges in the light of demographic decline, discussions are currently taking place between St. Patrick's College, Drumcondra, and Dublin City University on new linkages between those two institutions.

I am hopeful that an agreement will be reached which will form the basis for collaboration between the two institutions in the provision of academic programmes and in achieving the optimum use of facilities and resources.
