Vol. 417 No. 2

Request to Move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 30.

I am seeking the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 30 to discuss the urgent and important matter of the potential major industrial dispute in the main banks. In particular we should ask all involved in this matter to take no action which might further escalate the dispute before the Labour Relations Commission have had an opportunity to intervene.

Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be one contemplated by Standing Order 30. Therefore I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

I am very disappointed because this is a matter of major national interest.

The Deputy may not challenge the ruling of the Chair in this fashion.

May I ask the Minister whether a statment may be made on the matter?

No. This matter has been ongoing for sometime and Members of this House have had ample opportunity to raise it in the normal way.

The banks will go on strike.
