Vol. 417 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funds.

Peter Barry

Question:

40 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline the amount of national lottery funds dispersed through his Department in 1991 to Counties Limerick, Cork and Mayo.

The position regarding the distribution of national lottery grants is that, while as Minister for Finance I have overall responsibility for the national lottery, the operation of the various national lottery funded spending programmes is a matter for each of the Ministers concerned. I note that the Deputy is also raising this matter directly with other Ministers.

In the case of my Department, the one activity which is funded by the national lottery is Gaeleagras na Seirbhíse Poiblí, which operates through their headquarters in Dublin. Only nominal expenditure arises in other counties in connection with the organising of Irish language classes locally.
