17 Mrs. Barnes asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the terms of the agreement which he made on behalf of the Republic at the informal meeting of the EC Environment Ministers at Estoril, Portugal, on 22 February, 1992.
At their informal meeting in February, EC Environment Ministers discussed matters related to the forthcoming United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. The informal conclusions of the Presidency following this discussion are available in the Oireachtas Library. Ministers also discussed the appropriate EC response to the increased threat of ozone layer depletion in the northern hemisphere and there was informal agreement that production and consumption of ozone-depleting substances should be reduced by 85 per cent by end of 1993 and eliminated by end of 1995. Ministers also discussed problems attending the establishment of the European Environment Agency.
