Question:

33 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will establish the 1 per cent public art scheme as operated by his Department on a statutory basis and include all capital expenditure on public construction projects in the various Government Departments; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am satisfied that this scheme, which relates to construction projects of local authorities, is operating satisfactorily and I see no reason, at this stage, to alter the current arrangements. The question of extending the scheme to the capital programmes administered by other Government Departments is a matter for the Ministers concerned.
