Vol. 417 No. 7

Written Answers. - Residence Application.

Patrick McCartan

Question:

127 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Justice when a decision will be made in regard to the permission being sought to continue in residence in Ireland of a person (details supplied); if he will undertake to conclude this matter in view of the extent of time it has been pending; whether an application for naturalisation of citizenship has been lodged; and if so, whether an early decision will also be made in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The person referred to in the question has applied for refugee status. Before a final decision can be taken as to whether the applicant qualifies for refugee status under the Geneva Convention, the further views of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees must be obtained. As soon as the UNHCR gives its views, the decision will be communicated to the applicant.

No application for naturalisation has been made by the person concerned.
