Question:

129 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline the status of persons (details supplied) in County Cork in view of the fact that one of these persons, who is a citizen of the European Community, has been informed by the Gardaí that she and her husband must leave Ireland even though they were issued with an alien book in 1991 and had requested, since then, that their passports be stamped and that they be issued with up-to-date alien books; and if he will further outline the status of their application for naturalisation.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 128 and 129 together.

The persons referred to in the question have permission to remain in the State until 17 April 1992. This is at present being reviewed and a final decision will be made shortly.

They will not have completed five years legal residence in the State, which is one of the conditions for the grant of naturalisation, before October 1994.
