Vol. 417 No. 7

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Shatter — the recent incidents in south Dublin in which 60 cars had their tyres slashed in an alleged gangland attempt to intimidate the Garda; and the action that will be taken in that regard; (2) Deputy Gregory — the breakdown in negotiations in the Dublin port dispute involving Dublin Cargo Handling and the threatened loss of over 200 jobs placing the whole future of the country's premier port in jeopardy, and the very urgent need to re-open negotiations; (3) Deputy Flanagan — the need for the Government to review the terms of reference of the Dáil committee on crime; (4) Deputy Durkan — the action proposed by the Minister for Energy in the event of the reported closure of the Lullymore briquette plant in County Kildare; (5) Deputy Owen — the imminent threat of starvation to 23 million people in the Horn of Africa due to drought and the action the Government will take to assist these people; (6) Deputy Garland — the incorrect priorities shown by the Minister for Energy in directing Coillte Teo to develop their properties to the greatest commercial extent which has resulted in the undesirable development at Lough Key Forest Park; (7) Deputy Power — if the Minister for Energy will enter talks with the Board na Móna management and ensure that the Lullymore briquette factory is not closed down and thereby preventing the loss of over 100 jobs.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by the following Deputies: (1) Deputy Alan Shatter; (2) Deputy Nora Owen; (3) Deputy Tony Gregory.
