Vol. 417 No. 7

Written Answers. - St. James's Hospital, Dublin.

Ivan Yates

Question:

32 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the reports that the St. James's Hospital unit for dealing with HIV is at its capacity; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As I indicated to the House on the Adjournment on Tuesday last, 24 March 1992, I have always recognised that AIDS and HIV would make a significant impact on St. James's Hospital and that the hospital would have to be funded to take account of that fact. In view of this, discussions have taken place on my initiative since February last between my Department and the hospital and agreement has been reached on measures and the necessary funding to improve the present service for HIV/AIDS at the hospital.
