Vol. 417 No. 7

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting List.

Tony Gregory

Question:

37 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the number of children with serious heart conditions on the waiting list for medical investigations at Our Lady's children's hospital, Crumlin, Dublin 12; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are currently 350 patients on the waiting list for cardiac catheterisation.

I am informed by the hospital that, of the 350 patients on the list, 100 would not be ready for treatment on medical grounds at this stage.

Emergency cases are dealt with immediately.

The Deputy will be pleased to know that my predecessor recently approved a second post of Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist for Our Lady's Hospital, Crumlin, and the hospital authorities are at present in the process of filling the post. I am confident that this additional appointment will have a major beneficial impact on the waiting times involved for catheterisation.
