Vol. 417 No. 7

Written Answers. - Appointment of Orthopaedic Surgeon.

Austin Deasy

Question:

52 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Health if he will grant approval to the South-Eastern Health Board for the employment of a permanent orthopaedic surgeon at Waterford Regional Hospital in view of the growing waiting list for hip replacement operations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would like to inform the Deputy that I have only just received the report of the joint Comhairle an nOspideal/ Department of Health review group on orthopaedic services in the South Eastern Health Board area.

I will study the recommendations made in this report and I hope that it will be possible to make progress in resolving the current difficulties regarding this service at an early date.
