Vol. 417 No. 7

Written Answers. - Consultants' Fees.

Godfrey Timmins

Question:

57 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Health the outcome of his discussions with the Minister for Industry and Commerce on the proposed new range of fees published by the Irish Hospital Consultants' Association.

Brendan McGahon

Question:

68 Mr. McGahon asked the Minister for Health if he is undertaking a study of the recent Irish Hospital Consultants' Association fees schedule; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 57 and 68 together. The proposed new fees schedule was considered by the Government in October 1991 and was subsequently discussed by officials of my Department and the Department of Industry and Commerce. Arising from these discussions it was decided to contact other interested parties before referring the matter back to Government. These consultations will be concluded shortly.
