Vol. 417 No. 7

Written Answers. - Castlebar (Mayo) General Hospital.

Enda Kenny

Question:

85 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Health if he will consider the continued development of Castlebar General Hospital, County Mayo, by a scheme of private funding and a lease and buy-back arrangement by the Western Health Board; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The second phase of the development of Castlebar General Hospital will be considered for capital funding in the context of the resources that will be available from the health capital programme in 1993 and subsequent years. The Western Health Board have not submitted any alternative proposals to my Department in relation to the funding of the project. Any such proposals would be assessed on the basis of their cost-effectiveness and the overall priority to be accorded to this project, in the context of the approved overall level of capital expenditure in the health services.
