Question:

110 Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Health the number of amniocentesis tests carried out in Dublin hospitals in 1990 and 1991; the earliest stage in pregnancy at which this test can be carried out; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Amniocentesis tests are carried out for pregnant women at maternity hospitals where this is indicated as part of ante-natal medical care of the mother and the child.

The following is the number of tests in 1990 and 1991 in Dublin maternity hospitals.
