Vol. 417 No. 7

Written Answers. - National Lottery.

Ivor Callely

Question:

123 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of the receipts to the Government from the national lottery in 1991; whether there are any plans to expand the income of the national lottery overseas; his views on whether the national lottery operates in a fair competition arena; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The national lottery fund received a surplus of £77,300,541 in 1991 from the operations of the national lottery. I would refer the Deputy to the 1991 annual report of An Post National Lottery Company, copies of which are available, in the Library, for further details.

The national lottery has no plans for the sale of its products abroad.

I am satisfied that the national lottery is operated in accordance with the provisions of the National Lottery Act, 1986, and in line with the terms of the licence granted by my predecessor to An Post National Lottery Company on 7 October 1986.
