Vol. 417 No. 9

Written Answers. - Doctors Retention Fees.

Bernard Allen

Question:

222 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement on his refusal to allow the Medical Council to increase doctors annual retention fees as planned from next July.

The current retention fee is £70 per annum. I consider the increases proposed by the Medical Council, which were over 42% in respect of some fees, to be excessive. I have, however, told the council that I am prepared to discuss the matter with them further.
