Question:

232 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement on recent reports that the Irish College of General Practitioners are seeking to have a State-funded general practice council take control of the multi-million pound education budget for general practice; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 225 and 232 together.

I understand that the Irish College of General Practitioners is formulating a proposal on a consultative council for general practice which will be submitted and discussed in the context of the review of the general medical services scheme which begain on 19 March. In view of this, I do not propose to comment further at this stage.
