Vol. 417 No. 9

Written Answers. - GP Practice Improvement Grants.

Bernard Allen

Question:

233 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement on a recent report in the Irish Medical Times that about £760,000 due to GPs in practice improvements grants has been withheld by the health board since 1969 despite the fact that about £100,000 of this money has actually been approved by the boards; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am concerned to ensure that high quality and cost-effective general practitioner service is provided to persons covered by medical cards.

The Irish Medical Organisation and Management have recently commenced a review of the GMS contract at which all aspects of the service will be examined, including the provision of practice improvement grants, to see what changes are required to improve the scheme.
