Vol. 417 No. 9

Written Answers. - One Teacher School Appointments.

William Cotter

Question:

68 Mr. Cotter asked the Minister for Education if he has any plans to take a lenient view in the case of one teacher national schools in the matter of appointing a second teacher in view of the difficulty involved where one teacher is obliged to teach all classes; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I appreciate the difficulties faced by one teacher schools.

The position of these schools will be referred to in the forthcoming Green Paper. In the meantime, under the terms of theProgramme for Economic and Social Progress, a new staffing schedule governing teacher appointments in national schools will be implemented from September 1992. This schedule will include a provision improving the staffing position of the kind of school referred to by the Deputy.
