Vol. 417 No. 9

Written Answers. - School Furniture.

John Browne

Question:

75 Mr. Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) asked the Minister for Education if he will give details of the meetings which have taken place with the INTO regarding suitability of school furniture; and the progress which has been made by the Department following these meetings.

Meetings regarding the suitability of national school furniture were held between INTO representatives and Department of Education staff on 14 March 1990, 9 July 1991 and 26 February 1992. A seminar was held on 5 April 1990 at which 20 representatives of the INTO met with departmental staff and furniture manufacturers. National school furniture is monitored and checked on an ongoing basis and upgraded in line with Irish standards for furniture.

All complaints brought to the notice of the Department are dealt with and rectified where possible.
