Vol. 417 No. 9

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Recruitment.

Peter Barry

Question:

100 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Defence if there will be recruitment to the Army and the Naval Service in 1992; and, if so, if he will outline the numbers to be recruited in each case.

To date in 1992 fifty recruits have been enlisted for general service in the Naval Service.

A competition for the award of thirty-six apprenticeships in various trades for the Army and the Naval Service was advertised earlier this year. The sussessful candidates will be enlisted in August 1992.

Competitions for the award of cadetships in the Permanent Defence Force are being advertised at present. The number of Army cadetships to be awarded has not been finally determined; six Naval Service cadetships will be available.

The question of further recruitment for general service in the Army and the Naval Service is being kept under review in the light of operational requirements.
