Vol. 417 No. 9

Written Answers. - Racial Discrimination Legislation.

Charles Flanagan

Question:

135 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Justice if it is the intention of the Government to introduce legislation to outlaw racial discrimination; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, which has been signed by Ireland, is currently under consideration by Government Departments to see if further measures, including legislation, are necessary to enable Ireland to ratify the Convention.

Any proposals which the Government may have as a result of that consideration will be announced in the normal way in due course.
