Vol. 418 No. 1

Written Answers. - Disabled Person's Maintenance Allowance.

Terry Leyden

Question:

134 Mr. Leyden asked the Minister for Health if he will review the regulations regarding payment of dependent person's maintenance allowance to ensure that a loss would not occur to a dependent spouse when assessed to be included as a dependent spouse on the unemployment allowance for her husband (details supplied) in County Roscommon.

The regulations concerning payment of disabled persons maintenance allowance specify that health boards shall when determining the amount of DPMA payable have regard to the income of the applicant's spouse and all persons in respect of whom that person claims. In this case the applicant's spouse has, in addition to partial unemployment assistance, income from part-time employment which the health board must take into account when determining the amount of DPMA payable to the applicant. I do not propose to change the regulations in this regard.
