46 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Defence the procedural and operational changes he proposes to introduce into the operations of his Department so as to give effect to the Taoiseach's statement of his commitment to open Government; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
The Department of Defence through their information officer and the Defence Forces press officer issue frequent statements on departmental and Defence Forces activities, within the constraints imposed by security considerations. Having regard to the Taoiseach's declared objectives I will be examining what procedural and other improvements can be made to improve the flow of information from the Department.
It is my firm intention to ensure that members of this House and the general public are kept well informed of developments in the area of Defence, subject only to the security considerations which apply.
