Vol. 418 No. 2

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case:

(1) Deputy Gay Mitchell — if the Minister for Justice will confirm that he intends to immediately introduce a new Loitering Act to deal with the problem of gangs of youths intimidating citizens in Dublin.

(2) Deputy Cotter — the urgent need to build an extension to Edenmore national school, Emyvale, County Monaghan, in view of the fact that the present accommodation is inadequate.

(3) Deputy Gerry O'Sullivan — the dramatic increase in housing subsidies paid by the Southern Health Board last year.

(4) Deputy McCartan — the circumstances surrounding the incarceration of a youth who took his own life in St. Patrick's Institution, North Circular Road, Dublin 7, on 17 March and the need to establish a full judicial inquiry into these circumstances.

(5) Deputy Gilmore — the subject matter of replies to Questions Nos. 197 and 198 of 10 March 1992, concerning the provision of primary school facilities for children in the Ballyogan estate in County Dublin.

(6) Deputy Deenihan — the major problems facing many Irish groups involved in providing emigration services in the US following the withdrawal of funding by the Irish Government for 1992.

(7) Deputy Sheehan — the serious situation that exists with a huge number of farmers throughout the country who are debarred from obtaining the beef premium scheme for minor technical reasons.

(8) Deputy Ryan — the need for additional policing for O'Connell Street, Dublin 1, particularly given the difficulties businesses are experiencing in the area.

(9) Deputy Flaherty — whether the Minister for Industry and Commerce will report on the difficulties at Munekata Plastronix in Finglas, resulting in the loss of 140 jobs.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by the following Deputies: (1) Ryan, (2) McCartan and (3) Cotter.
