Vol. 418 No. 2

Written Answers. - Granting of Pardons.

Ivor Callely

Question:

53 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice the number of prisoners who have been granted a pardon after their case was reviewed in the last ten years, whether his Department received submissions to review any particular case with a view to a pardon being granted in the last 12 months; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to the right of pardon which is vested in the President under Article 13 of the Constitution. No prisoner has been granted a pardon in the past ten years. Submissions have been received in the recent past with a view to having a pardon granted in certain cases.
