Question:

Question:

168 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment if he is willing to make available the necessary funds to Kildare County Council to enable that body draw up preliminary designs for extra access from the Maynooth Road, Celbridge to the N4 motorway as is the procedure for premium motorway plans; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 167 and 168 together.

In view of the evidence presented at the public inquiries into the Leixlip/Kilcock/Maynooth motorway scheme and the Kilcullen link motorway scheme, particularly in relation to the need for and location of interchanges, I propose to defer any decision as to the provision of State road grants for the preparation and processing of any further motorway schemes to provide for additional access to these motorways until any such further schemes have been determined. In view of my quasi-judicial functions in relation to motorway schemes, it would not be appropriate for me to comment further.
