104 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline whether the proposed negotiations at EC level for harmonising asylum policies will respect the ten essential principles as set out by Amnesty International; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The basis for discussion at EC level on this issue is a report prepared for the meeting of EC Heads of State and Government at Maastricht on 9-10 December 1991, a copy of which I am arranging to have placed in the Oireachtas Library. Any proposals will, of course, have regard to human rights issues.
