Vol. 419 No. 3

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: Deputy Gregory— recent media revelations that up to six major international drug traffickers are conducting their operations from Ireland; the measures the Garda are taking to deal with this serious matter and the additional resources the Garda drugs unit will have to respond effectively to this threat; Deputy Fennell— whether the Minister for Education will issue guidelines to State supported schools forbidding the use of school buildings and grounds for organising, promoting or postering functions, meetings or marches about abortion; Deputy Durkan— the failure of the Minister for Education to respond to the needs of Confey College, Leixlip, County Kildare, by way of provision of permanent buildings to replace temporary school buildings currently in use; Deputies Dermot Ahern and McGahon — the problems being created by the closure of a ward in Louth County Hospital, Dundalk and Deputy Garland— the crisis situation at Tymon Park, Tallaght, where there is a risk of a breach of the peace due to 150 local residents who are defying a High Court injunction against the destruction of their park.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies Gregory, Fennell and Durkan.
