Vol. 419 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Limerick School.

Michael Noonan

Question:

62 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the circumstances in which he would be willing to sanction a school (details supplied) in County Limerick, at present run privately, as a primary school, and if he will give details of the regulations with which a new board of management would have to comply to be sanctioned.

National schools are schools recognised by the Minister for Education and, as such, eligible for receipt of appropriate grant-in-aid from my Department.

In order to warrant the grant of aid, I, as Minister, would have to be satisfied that a particular school is required as a national school.

This is a matter which would be examined in the light of an application to my Department from the school in question. Such an application does not appear to have been lodged to date.

The Constitution of Boards of Management of National Schools and the Rules of Procedure are set out in booklet form available from my Department or from the Government Pubications Sale Office, Dublin.
