Vol. 419 No. 5

Written Answers. - Southern Cross Motorway.

Alan Shatter

Question:

28 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for the Environment whether he has yet considered the report of the inspector resulting from the southern cross motorway public inquiry; when he will be notifying Dublin County Council of his decision; and when the construction of the southern cross route will commence.

The Inspector who conducted the public local inquiry on the Southern Cross Route Motorway Scheme has yet to complete his report. I expect to receive this by the end of May and will make a decision as soon as possible thereafter. Subject to that decision, the best estimate is for a start date early in 1994. In view of my quasi-judicial functions in relation to the scheme, it would be inappropriate for me to comment further at this stage.
