Vol. 419 No. 5

Written Answers. - Constituency Boundary Review.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

57 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the circumstances in which a further constituency boundary review would be made; the information which would be needed to complete this; and when he expects to be in possession of this information.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

67 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for the Environment when the independent boundary commission to review constituencies, which was promised in the review of the Programme for Government will be set up; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

John Connor

Question:

99 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for the Environment if he will confirm that the necessary data from the 1991 population census is now available to allow for an examination of the Dáil constituency boundaries; and whether it remains the policy of the Government to establish a new boundary commission to revise the constituencies as set out in the revised Programme for Government agreed in October, 1991.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 57, 67 and 99 together.

I understand that the Central Statistics Office expects to publish the 1991 population figures for District Electoral Divisions and Wards, which are required for consideration of a constituency revision, during the second half of this year. The establishment of a constituency commission can then be pursued.
