Vol. 419 No. 5

Written Answers. - Army Dress.

John Bruton

Question:

101 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Defence the reason retired officers are not permitted to wear dress uniforms at annual functions and re-unions.

Under section 264 of the Defence Act, 1954 it is an offence for persons who are not members of the Defence Forces to wear, without permission, any uniform of the Defence Forces. However, retired officers may apply for permission to wear uniform and each such application is considered on its merits.
