Peter Barry

Question:

123 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Justice whether the East Riding Garda Division of Cork has had an increase in serious crime in the last five years; if so, the increase in each of those years; and whether these figures apply to Cork city or the complete area.

A specific plan of action has been drawn up by the Garda authorities to deal with the crime problems being experienced in the Cork area. In this respect I would like to refer the Deputy to the response I gave to a question tabled by Deputy Allen on 19 February 1992 (Official Report, Vol. 415, No. 9, Columns 2465 to 2467) in which I outlined the extent of the measures being taken by the gardaí to deal with the crime situation in the Cork area.
