Vol. 420 No. 4

Written Answers. - Company Inspector.

Phil Hogan

Question:

95 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his attention has been drawn to the potential conflict of interest arising from the appointment of a person (details supplied) as inspector into the affairs of a company (details supplied) in view of the involvement of this person's accountancy firm (details supplied) as financial advisers to a company (details supplied) in the context of the management buy-out of a company (details supplied) in November 1988, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am not aware of any conflict which would have precluded the person referred to from appointment by the High Court as an inspector in the affairs of the company in question.

I am informed that the financial advice referred to was provided by another accountancy firm which was merged with that of the person concerned only from 1 November, 1988 to 18 August, 1989 and that person had no involvement in the matter at any stage.
