Vol. 420 No. 6

Written Answers. - Beef Tribunal Legal Fees.

Ivor Callely

Question:

163 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline (a) the State's legal fees to date for barristers and solicitors in the beef tribunal and (b) the steps which have been taken to minimise these fees.

The fees payable to Counsel for the State at the Beef Tribunal to 31 Mary 1992 were £1.5m.

These fees were fixed by the Attorney Generals Office as follows: Senior Counsel: £8,400 for preparatory brief plus £1,890 per diem. Junior Counsel: £5,600 for preparatory brief plus £1,260 per diem.

It is not possible at this stage to estimate what the total cost of the State's legal fees for the Tribunal will be.
