Vol. 420 No. 9

Written Answers. - Taxi Licence Procedures.

Michael Creed

Question:

172 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the procedures which must be adopted to acquire a taxi licence in Cork city.

The Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) (Amendment) Regulations 1991 provide that, with the exception of 100 new taxi licences which were authorised to be granted in respect of the Dublin taximeter area, no small public service vehicle licences may be granted with effect from the date on which those regulations came into effect (viz. 24th October, 1991). This restriction will be re-examined in the light of the report of the committee which carried out a review of the law applying to the operation of small public service vehicles. I intend to make early decisions on a number of priority issues arising from that report and I am arranging to have the report printed and published as soon as possible.
