Vol. 420 No. 9

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Mitchell, the abolition of the alleviation allowance from next July and the effect this will have on many of our less well-off citizens; (2) Deputy Flaherty, the Heathwatch report indicating very high levels of radiation in the Ballymun-Santry area associated with high-tension cables; (3) Deputy R. Bruton, withdrawal by FÁS of a Teamwork scheme to assist the Irish Wheelchair Association to run a day activity centre for persons with a severe physical disability; (4) Deputy D. Ahern, the question of office accommodation for the new blocks of Revenue work recently designated by the Minister for Finance for Dundalk and the reported proposed use of portacabins for such accommodation; (5) Deputy M. Kitt, the measures the Minister for the Environment proposes to take to deal with serious accidents on the approach roads to Kilrickle village, Loughrea, where two fatal accidents have occurred in the last 12 months; (6) Deputy G. Reynolds, whether the Minister for Education will have school transport to the post-primary schools in Mohill extended from Farnaught Post Office, County Leitrim, to Beihy Bridge, County Leitrim, so as to facilitate a large number of students who are currently attending a post-primary school in Mohill, County Leitrim; (7) Deputy Gilmore, the temporary embargo which has been imposed on the recruitment of participants to social employment schemes; (8) Deputy Deasy, whether an order will be made prohibiting the assembly of large numbers of itinerant caravans at one location at any given time, thereby creating major problems for local residents and the relevant local authority such as happened in Dungarvan, County Waterford, during the week; (9) Deputy Deenihan, the need to provide the necessary finance for the provision of additional accommodation for engineering, building construction and drawing at Tarbert comprehensive school, County Kerry; (10) Deputy Moynihan, the proposed closure of Kenmare, County Kerry labour exchange in view of the resultant hardship for a large section of the population concerned; (11) Deputy Enright, the inadequate level of primary education facilities available for hearing impaired children and children with mental or physical handicap and the necessity for an overall improvement in the assessment and teaching of such children and (12) Deputy Gregory, the need to have a remedial teacher sanctioned for St. Paul's primary school, North Brunswick Street, Dublin, now the only Dublin inner city school serving a severely disadvantaged area without a remedial teacher.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies G. Reynolds, Enright and Moynihan.
