Vol. 420 No. 9

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

199 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7 is entitled to a free fuel allowance.

In order to qualify for Free Fuel Allowance, a person and members of his household must not have a combined income of more than £5 per week or savings-investments of £2,800 or more in addition to a Contributory Social Welfare Pension.

The person concerned applied for this allowance on three occasions — in October 1989, October 1990 and September 1991. Each application had to be rejected as this person is in receipt of an income in excess of the weekly limit of £5 in addition to his Old Age Contributory Pension. I regret therefore that it is not possible to award him a Free Fuel Allowance in these circumstances.
