Question:33 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Energy the level of energy labelling of electrical appliances in Ireland at present; and if he will make a statement on the desirability of such labelling.
Written Answers. - Electrical Appliances Labelling.
There is no formal energy labelling scheme for electrical appliances operating in Ireland at present. However, under the EC "SAVE" Programme, the European Commission has tabled a framework Directive on the energy labelling of household appliances which, when adopted by the Council of Ministers, will come into force on 1 January 1994. Discussions are also taking place on implementing directives for individual categories of household appliances.
I support the implementation of these directives which should result in a reduction in energy consumption with consequential improvement of the environment.
