Vol. 420 No. 9

Written Answers. - Mining Licence Application.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

38 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Energy if his Department have yet received an application for a mining licence from any firm in respect of lead and zinc deposits at Galmoy; if he will outline the latest information available to him on the extent of reserves and the intentions of a company (details supplied) in regard to their development; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department has not received an application for a mining licence in respect of the lead and zinc deposits at Galmoy, Co. Kilkenny. As I have stated to this House on previous occasions all information furnished by a prospecting licence holder during the currency of such a licence is treated as confidential. The prospecting company operating at Galmoy has issued a number of statements on the progress of its operations and any further information would be a matter for the company.
