Vol. 421 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Tipperary School Principal Appointment.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

140 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education the reason his Department has refused to appoint a permanent principle to a school (details supplied) in County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Where there are plans to amalgamate a number of post-primary schools, it is normal practice to allow only temporary appointments of principals and vice-principals, pending developments of rationalisation proposals, because of the staffing implications following amalgamation.

My Department has conveyed sanction in this case for the filling of the post in an acting capacity.
