Written Answers. - Available School Places.

Austin Currie

Question:

154 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education if he will outline (a) the projected number of places available in (1) Coolmine community school, (2) St. Declan's CBS and (3) the Dominican Convent, Cabra, Dublin for each of the next ten years and (b) the projected demand from each of their feeder national schools for each year over the same period.

The number of places available for new pupils in (i) Coolmine community School, (ii) St. Declan's C.B.S. and (iii) Dominican Convent, Cabra and the projected number of pupils leaving national schools in their areas for the next ten years are shown in the following table.

It is not possible to predict precisely the number of pupils who will seek second-level places in any particular school, especially in the greater urban areas, where catchment areas are not defined.

The following figures show the number of new pupils expected to be enrolled in September 1992 in: Coolmine community school, 210/220; St. Declan's CBS, 130/140; Dominican Convent Cabra, 200/210.
The Department would expect that a similar number of pupils will be enrolled in the schools, each year for the next ten years.
