Vol. 421 No. 4

Written Answers. - Junior Certificate English Paper.

Michael Noonan

Question:

172 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Education if his attention has been drawn to (a) the confusion caused to certain students who sat the junior certificate English second paper, by the stapling of that paper in an incorrect sequence and (b) the fact that certain supervisors did not point out the error to the examinees; if he will make a statement on the matter and in particular give an assurance that the upset to students caused by this will be taken into account in the marking of their scripts.

The matter referred to by the Deputy has already been brought to my Department's notice.

I have arranged that the circumstances of the case will be brought to the attention of the Chief Examiner for Junior Certificate English (Higher Level) so that full account can be taken of the matter at the marking stage.
