Question:

214 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the number of beds in private nursing homes for elderly people in (a) County Tipperary and (b) the South-Eastern Health Board area that are not receiving any subvention from his Department.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 213 and 214 together.

The payment of subvention to nursing homes is the responsibility of the health boards. I wish to point out also that responsibility for County Tipperary is divided between the Mid-Western Health Board which deals with Tipperary North Riding and the South-Eastern Health Board which deals with South Riding.
The total numbers of beds which are being subvented by the health boards in the areas requested are as follows: (a) County Tipperary, 216 subvented beds; (b) South-Eastern Health Board area, 322 subvented beds.
The total number of private nursing home beds which are not receiving subvention from the health boards in these areas is as follows: (a) County Tipperary, 265 unsubvented beds; (b) South-Eastern Health Board, 432 unsubvented beds.
