Vol. 421 No. 4

Written Answers. - Southern Health Board Posts.

Bernard Allen

Question:

223 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the prioritised list which he received from the Southern Health Board regarding proposals for the permanent filling of various posts in order as they were given by the health board; and if he will make a statement on when he proposes to fill all of the positions as sought.

Under existing procedures it is a matter for each health agency to identify and submit prioritised staffing proposals to my Department for approval to fill new and replacement posts on a permanent basis. These are reviewed on a monthly basis by my Department. This review is undertaken having regard to service and personnel criteria in the context of the priority afforded to each post by the agency concerned and with particular regard to the availability of financial resources.

Details of the current prioritised manpower submission received by my Department from the Southern Health Board are as follows:

Replacement Posts

New Posts

15 General Trained Nurses

1 Mould Room

12 Attendants

Technician

2 Public Health Nurses

1 Senior Lab. Technician

1 Ambulance Driver

1 Home Help Supervisor

4 Dental Surgery

Assistants

It might be noted that no consultant posts have been placed on the submission as these are subject to a separate procedure.
Consideration is being given by my Department to this submission having regard to the criteria already outlined, and the board will be informed of the outcome of these deliberations as soon as possible.
